A US trademark sale for “Space Force” has sold for more than $9 million after the US military acquired it.
The trademark was sold in June 2016 for $4.4 million.
It was then used by the US Air Force, Army and Navy.
The sale comes after the trademark was registered by another company, Bancroft & Harcourt, for the US Navy and Air Force.
“This is a very, very important moment in our history,” said Robert J. Siegel, president and CEO of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, which oversees the US government’s trademark protection.
“The mark has had such great and enduring value and recognition for over 100 years, and we will continue to support it with all of our resources.”
“The Air Force and the Navy will continue their efforts to protect the mark, which has been a hallmark of the US armed forces,” he added.
“A strong, loyal and dedicated military has become the foundation of our nation’s history and our nation is proud of the legacy of this military.”
Space Force has been used in films, commercials and other media.
It is also the name of a video game released in 2009 by Electronic Arts.
