A couple who sued Google for trademark infringement for using their name to promote an anti-Islamic video has been detained in Israel.
According to Haaretz, the couple were detained by police at their home in Tel Aviv on Friday, after they allegedly posted a video on YouTube promoting a pro-Palestinian film, in which a woman was photographed with a sign that read “the Jews are a foreign invader”.
The Israeli media outlet reports that the couple’s lawyer filed a complaint with the Israel Civil Registry last month accusing Google of using their trademarks to promote a pro.
Palestinian activists have been vocal about their concerns about the video, which was uploaded on April 16 and was shot in the West Bank city of Hebron.
The video, entitled “We will not allow Israel to destroy Palestine,” has attracted widespread condemnation, and calls to boycott Google and other tech companies for using the same logo as Israel.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The couple’s case against Google has not been resolved.
